A Man of Promises
Good morning! Why am I so happy this morning?
Because this morning I am a Promised Man!
That is:
I am a Man of Promises!
I am a Man of Grace!
I am a Man of Gifts!
I don’t deserve these things…
I didn’t get them by being Righteous or by being Holy.
I didn’t work hard under the sun, or invest money wisely.
I didn’t write a book or learn to sing like the angels.
I only received all the promises, grace and incredible gifts because I did ONE THING.
I am a Christian and EVERY promise of God for His children is FOR ME!
I want to talk this morning about how EVERY ONE of US can be MEN and WOMEN of the PROMISES of God!
RIGHT NOW. RIGHT HERE. AND FOREVER!
What is a Promise?
Someone makes a promise when they assure us that something will happen or that they will do something.
AND God has made MANY PROMISES!
In fact, since every word of God is TRUE (certain),
EVERY WORD OF GOD IS A PROMISE!
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
2 Corinthians 1:19-20 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
WHERE do we find the PROMISES of God?
In the Bible.
HOW MANY promises are there?
Innumerable!
How do we RECEIVE the promises of God?
BY FAITH!
Many are confused by Faith.
So many ideas as to what Faith is.
Most of these ideas DON’T WORK…!
What does the BIBLE say?
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
“substance” = strong confidence.
The strong confidence of a believer is the evidence that the promise is true.
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Now Abraham believed the Promise of God that he would have a son:
Romans 4:19-22 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
It’s amazing that Abraham believed God!
It’s amazing that God gave Abraham credit for what God Himself has done!
Romans 4:23-25 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
This type of Faith is GUARANTEED to work BY GOD!
But many do not believe the promises of God…
They believe that God CAN do something,
But they don’t believe that He WILL do it!
{Some people will try to STOP you from believing a promise that is FOR YOU.
They’ll try to explain it away or say “God doesn’t always do that”.
They are sincere and they love you, but HOLD ONTO GOD!}
There are two reasons that people DON’T believe God’s promises:
1. They are not born again believers in Jesus Christ.
2. They don’t understand the promises and WHO the promises are for.
There are promises for:
Those that give to the poor, those that are depressed (those that HELP the depressed).
Those that work the fields, those that are in jail.
Those that are sick, those who teach, those who are rich, those who sing.
Those who preach, those that are married.
Promises for poor people, single people, young people, old people.
Promises for parents, children, workers, slaves, bosses, home owners…
THERE ARE PROMISES FOR YOU!!
Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Have your sins been pardoned?
Have you received the Holy Spirit?
If we believe the promises of God:
We won’t worry about food, drink, clothing and the things the WORLD seeks after… (Matt. 6:31-33)
Our families will be saved… Acts 16:3-34)
There are also some petty harsh promises:
We will be persecuted… (2 Tim. 3:12)
The world will hate us… (John 15:18-19)
The biggest promises have to do with the “name of Jesus”:
John 14:13-14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
What does it mean to ask “in the name of Jesus”?
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Finally, I want to read a promise to those that Preach the Gospel (and to those that listen to preaching):
Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Do you want to put your faith in Jesus Christ?
Do you believe His promises to save you?
Do you want to receive the Gift of His Holt Spirit?
ALL of the promises are for those that repent.
And are baptized.
They are for those that believe that God ALWAYS keeps His promises!
If you would like prayer or have questions, or wish to be baptized,
We are ready to help you.
